As
a photojournalist, Henri Dauman has roamed the world, for over
forty-five years, documenting historical events and personalities
for leading magazines and many foreign periodicals and books.
Working with LIFE Magazine as a feature photographer, he covered
diverse subjects, from John and Jackie Kennedy, Richard Nixon,
Dwight Eisenhower, Andy Warhol to Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley,
at telling moments in their lives. By the mid-60's, Dauman began
to work with other publishers as well, becoming a major contributor
to The New York Times, Newsweek, Forbes, Smithsonian, Town &
Country and New York Magazine.
Mr.
Dauman is a former Director and Vice-President of Cinergy Communications
Corporation, a diversified communications company. From 1970 to
1976, he was in charge of acquisitions, development and marketing
of film and television properties. He created innovative applications
for audio/visual software products in travel and medical fields
and was also responsible for the leasing and marketing of the
company's editing equipment. While with Cinergy, Dauman produced,
directed and photographed a variety of productions for PBS, BBC,
Granada and ORTF.
Through
Dauman Pictures, he has represented such leading photographers
as Brassaï, Lucien Aigner, Ernst Haas, Douglas Kirkland,
Bruno Zehnder's Penguins, Alfred Gescheidt and The Wertheimer
Collection of Elvis '56, for the worldwide licensing, production
and distribution of books, posters, notecards, postcards, calendars,
puzzles, magnets, clocks, watches, T-shirts, mugs, etc., and also
organized and curated photo exhibitions.
Dauman
has received numerous awards including the 1967 Picture of the
Year Award, for portraits and personalities, and a Communications
Art Magazine Award for Excellence. Professional articles concerned
with his work have appeared in 35mm Photography, Photo, The Photography
Catalog, Variety, The New York Times and Print Magazine.
